The Man

The Myth

The Mac

Sam Macdonald is a fourth year graduate student at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln pursuing a Ph.D. in mathematics. He is advised by Yvonne Lai, received an NSF Graduate Research Fellowship in the Spring of 2023, and would prefer to refer to himself in the first person moving forward.

I am primarily interested in mathematics education and expanding the accessibility of mathematics. These days, a majority of my time is split between the following three pursuits:

  • Prison education, specifically providing college level courses for prisoners and expanding access to educational resources behind bars;
  • Development of Open Educational Resources (OERs), both at the undergradaute and graduate level; and
  • Shifts in mathematical self-efficacy at transitionary points in undergraduate education, such as a first calculus or proof based course.

Outside of math, you will probably find me climbing, reading on my couch, or neglecting my cats.
