The Man

The Myth

The Mac

I'm Sam Macdonald, a (soon to be) assistant professor of mathematics at Augustana University. Before coming to Augie I was an NSF Graduate Research Fellow at the University of Nebraska—Lincoln, where I was advised by Yvonne Lai.

In terms of research, I am generally interested in the intersectons between mathematics and other disciplines, primarily in the humanities and social sciences. Such intersections include (but are by no means limited to) prison education, undergraduate education, speculative fiction, gerrymandering, fascism, and wider scientific communication.

Outside of academia, I write speclulative fiction and humor under the pen name Sam E. Sutin. This summer, I will also be writing for Scientific American as part of the AAAS Mass Media Fellowship. When I'm not writing, you can probably find me climbing, reading, or attempting to set and solve Variant Sudoku puzzles.
