The Man

The Myth

The Mac

I'm Sam Macdonald, a fifth year doctoral candidate at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln pursuing a Ph.D. in mathematics. I'm advised by Yvonne Lai, received an NSF Graduate Research Fellowship in the Spring of 2023, and am on the job market this year!

My research is centered in undergraduate mathematics education, specifically in the areas of mathematical identity and equity gaps at transitional points in undergraduate education, such as a first calculus or proof writing course. Additionally, I am active in the prison education community, and work to expand access to mathematics education behind bars.

Outside of math (but often intersecting it) I write speclulative fiction under the name Sam E. Sutin. When I'm not writing, you can probably find me climbing, reading, or neglecting my cats.
